In the last two years, Mer has established a broad public charging network and a strong portfolio of workplace and fleet EV charging projects.
Mer was launched in April 2021 to support and expand the UK market, and is now an established and growing public charging provider in the UK. In January 2022, Mer acquired Elmtronics, which was renamed Mer Fleet Services, marking its expansion into workplace and fleet charging and strengthening its position in the UK.
Karl Anders, Managing Director at Mer UK said “Our mission in establishing Mer has always been to help accelerate the shift to low-emission transport in the UK. Two years later, this goal is even more crucial, and I’m pleased to say we’ve come a very long way in a relatively short time. Mer’s growing charging network has already made a significant contribution to the UK’s EV charging infrastructure and we’re continuing our pioneering work alongside fellow charge point operators as a founding member of ChargeUK, the new trade body representing the EV charging industry as a unified voice to support customers, industry stakeholders and the UK government. At the heart of Mer’s EV charging solutions is the customer experience and we are looking forward to driving the electric transition even further in the future.” This is reflected in our positive ZapMap customer rating.

Since April 2021, Mer has installed 322 additional public chargers, saving 353 tonnes CO₂. Mer UK has partnered with 50 local authorities across the UK including Dorset, Durham, New Forest and the Isle of Wight, helping them meet local EV targets. Mer also has strong established partnerships with commercial property developers and landowners including Sears Retail Park, Stane Retail Park and Gateway Café.

Karl Anders, Mer UK Managing Director
Alex Hinchcliffe, Director of Public Charging, Mer UK, said “Our public charging network is now widespread, and continues to grow rapidly. Our partnerships with roaming companies Allstar, New Motion, Octopus Energy, Paua and ZapMap have maximised the accessibility of our charge points and we’re proud to have been chosen as an EV charging partner by so many local authorities, providing reliable charging points to their communities. With the UK Government’s goal to reach 300,000 charge points by 2030, we’re looking forward to accelerating our public charging network in the coming years to help meet that number.”
Mer’s acquisition of Elmtronics led to the formation of Mer Fleet Services to focus on workplace and fleet charging solutions. In one year, Mer Fleet Services has onboarded 323 new customers including IKEA, DX Delivery, Tarmac, Eden Project and Pilgrim’s Pride and installed 1,814 commercial sockets. Mer charge points have delivered 9,916,169 Kilowatt Hours and enabled nearly 31 million EV miles.

Karl Anders commented, “Mer’s acquisition of Elmtronics was a significant milestone for the company, combining its fleet and workplace expertise with our comprehensive experience in public charging. In the last year, we’ve secured partnerships with big names and built a strong reputation as a reliable and future-fit fleet EV charging provider. As equipping workplaces and fleets with charging solutions becomes a key priority for fleet and facilities managers, we’re looking forward to supporting businesses through their electrification journey and driving the UK’s fleet transition.”
Alongside the expansion of Mer’s charging network, Mer as a company has expanded. Anders comments, “On a company level, we’ve seen success with the substantial growth of our team. Since Mer’s inception in the UK, we’ve expanded our team and recruited a further 60 additional EV experts, and counting. We are building a fantastic team here who share the strong belief that electrification of transport is a key solution to the UK’s net zero transition and in addressing climate change.
“We’re also keen to reflect this sustainable mission in our business strategy and operations. A key achievement in our last two years is that Mer Public Charging was awarded the ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System certificate, demonstrating our commitment to bettering the company’s sustainability.”
